The USWNT drew against Sweden in the quarterfinal but ultimately lost in a penalty shootout, 3-4, resulting in elimination from the tournament. Sonnett was called up for both the January and February training camps and was named to the roster for the 2017 SheBelieves Cup tournament in March but did not see any playing time. She was left off the USWNT roster entirely from April to October 2017 by coach, Jill Ellis. Sonnett dropped out of the USWNT rotation for the majority of 2017 and did not earn any international caps during the calendar year. For the remainder of 2016, Sonnett continued to earn caps for the USWNT, appearing in friendlies against Thailand, the Netherlands, brazil jersey 2024-25 and Switzerland.
